Appleseed project

I am going to a appleseed rifleman shoot in march. Anybody here a rifleman or are all of you cooks?

Rifleman can shoot 4 moa out of a mbr to 500 yds. Iron sights. Thats 1 inch at 25 yards. 4 inches at 100 , 20 inch man sized target at 500.

I am pretty pumped. It should be fun. I will probably come back a cook.

Anybody here been to one?

What's a rifleman?
In short, a rifleman is an armed American, trained in the tradition of American Liberty. It's a man who has learned to shoot a rifle accurately accurate enough to score "expert" on the Army Qualification Course. Until you can do that, you're considered a "Cook," unprepared and unqualified to carry a rifle on the firing line of freedom. But after attending an Appleseed AQT shoot, you'll have the credentials necessary to be a true rifleman, and will understand the critical need for defending freedom in this country.

I'm glad you posted this. I learned about Appleseed from another member here but there haven't been any meets in my area for a while. I appreciate the reminder to check the 2009 schedule.

Thanks

Re: Appleseed project

Just checked the schedule. 1 event in MN and it's the only one SOLD OUT!!! I hope they add a few. Obviously we northerners like to shoot as much as our brothers and sisters in the south. A hot rifle does wonders with cold hands.

Noob,

Good deal! I actually attended an Appleseed shoot in Florida. What an AWESOME weekend experience. It was the hands down BEST riflemen instruction I had ever received. The combination of training and the historic backdrop they provide really makes the experience.

I would STRONGLY encourage anyone to attend Appleseeds and to attempt to establish a local chapter.

I really can't say much about the program. Kill some red coats for me.

Dave

Dave, it may have been you who brought up Appleseed when I heard about it. I certainly hope to get a run at it in MN.

I am looking forward to it. I can shoot but a little training goes a long way.

Codger,

I did post about Appleseeds several months back.

There is one in Winona MN April 18 and 19th: http://www.eventbrite.com/event/198881861

Is that close enough to attend?

I personally had to drive 4 hours to attend my event and would happily drive twice as far.

I would love to hear about your experience when you get a chance to go.

Dave

Re: Appleseed project

Oh, wow, looks like fun and a half! I have some experienced and non-experienced friends who might attend with me. I'm stuck between Ramseur, NC and Kingsport, TN. Anybody here maybe going to one of those locations?

I really like how the schedule rotates so that if you miss one you can grab another.

I think everyone is a cook with an AK

I love my AK, but it wouldn't be my rifle of choice to attend one of these Appleseed shoots. For anything over 200 yards or so, I'm looking at a Remington 700 in .308.

Re: Appleseed project

What would be the best rifle for this event? A Ruger 10/22 probably wouldn't cut it and a Mosin Nagant would beat you death after 250 rounds.

Shoden 02-06-2009 02:55 PM

Re: Appleseed project

Actually, they recommend a 10/22 for your primary instruction rifle:

Quote:

We recommend that you bring 1500 rounds with you to boot camp. In order to keep costs down, we would recommend that you bring a .22lr rifle with you as your main instruction rifle. You can purchase a good Ruger 10/22 for what you would save in centerfire ammo costs alone. Bring at least 2 bricks of .22 and about 200+ rounds for your centerfire. Of course if you piled it deep when it was cheap, feel free to shoot the whole week with your centerfire.
I don't see anywhere on their website where the recommend a specific type of centerfire rifle, but they do mention in "What to bring" to bring at least 5 magazines, so maybe my AK would be better than a Remington 700. Not really sure... an AR-15 is probably ideal though.

Dave,
The Winona event is the one that is sold out. I'll look to WI next. I may talk to the people at my gunclub and see if they are interested in hosting one. Obviously we have the demand for it.

Fred, from Fred's m14 stocks is a 308 man generally and a m14/m1a man specifically. I ordered his guide to be a rifleman and read it this week.

He says bring any rifle but bolt guns would be hard because of time pressure in the course.

He is the founder of the appleseed project.

Re: Appleseed project

This sounds awesome!

What rifle are you going to use? I have a Ruger 10/22 but I've been looking to get another piece, do you suggest anything?

What about larger caliburs?

I love the idea of iron sights...my Ruger 10/22 has a scope, but I really want a wood grain stock with iron sights...my Ruger is synthetic with scope...
